Still smoking American Spirit? Switch to Vaping Organics

It’s basically a universal truth that smoking cigarettes is bad for our health. After all, the Surgeon General warns us about the inherent risks of smoking on every pack, not to mention the statistics are solid (and astonishing). Compared to the average cigarette, vape is a much healthier choice. But what about when you compare vape to natural tobacco brands such as American Spirit?

In this agro-business dominated world swirling with GMOs, paired with our ever-increasing distance from the production process of everything we consume, choosing certified organic goods is one of the only ways to ensure what we put in our bodies is truly natural. American Spirit, the poster child of the natural and additive-free cigarette niche, has a reputation for being a “healthy” alternative to traditional cigarettes, despite warnings on their website to the contrary. Indeed, do “natural” and “organic” hold up when it comes to smoking?

In this post, we’ll take a good look at why Vape Organics, the first USDA-certified organic e-liquid for vaping, trumps American Spirit every time.

Carbon Monoxide

First, the basics: let’s compare smoke and vape. The act of burning produces a number of compounds, including carbon monoxide (CO), and cigarettes ( combustible tobacco ) are no exception. Smokers average ten times the blood CO levels that non-smokers exhibit. How does that affect you? Higher CO levels are related to higher angina rates, making the heart work harder to get oxygen to your cells. The good news is: not all damage is totally irreversible; within one week of quitting cigarettes CO levels drop significantly, nearing non-smoker levels.

Comparing Compounds

Vape Organics and American Spirit both offer USDA-certified organic products, raising them a level above the competition. The products offered by both brands do not contain even a fraction of the compounds found in traditional cigarettes, including: acetone, that nasty solvent in nail polish remover that causes liver and kidney damage; benzene, a nasty carcinogen; cadmium, a toxic heavy metal; hydrogen cyanide, used in the suicide pills you see in the movies, and many other harmful chemicals.

Meanwhile more and more people are turning to vaping as a safer alternative to smoking. But the industry is emerging from its experimentation stage and there is undoubtedly room for improvement. The effects of propylene glycol (PG), a petroleum-derived liquid that is a staple in most e-liquids, when heated and inhaled remain unknown. True organic compliance means that the product is absolutely free of PG (look for 100% VG… or the USDA Organic seal). There have also been diacetyl and acetyl propionyl scares when these substances were found in e-liquid. Vape Organics e-liquids contain no synthetic or harmful chemicals… just certified organic vegetable glycerin (VG), real food, fruit and plant extracts (NO artificial flavors and sweeteners), and USP-grade nicotine (optional, of course). Always organic, sustainably-sourced and vegan-friendly.

The Better “Certified Organic”

Natural or organic doesn’t mean that the tobacco is being raised sustainably or that it’s keeping small farms operational. American Spirit is owned by R.J. Reynolds, the world’s second-largest tobacco company with farmers all over the world, most of which are large corporate farms. The nicotine Vape Organics extracts from organic tobacco is farmed exclusively on US soil by independent farms, helping ensure those farms provide a livable income to more people. Vaping in general is a great way to boycott Big Tobacco (which continues its fight on us, the people, beyond “just” the production of life-threatening products) but vaping organics is best for you.

Until now, American Spirit was compared to other tobacco brands as the better natural/organic option, and Vape Organics to other e-liquid brands as the better natural/organic option. It’s high time for a category crossover and the better choice is clearly Vape Organics.

Very cool article. I like it when you can find useful information without the usual library of unnerving side-effects and diseases shoved in your face about smoking. I was personally very uncertain about switching to vape (because I LOVED to smoke and I couldn’t find any real evidence that vaping really was safer) but finding your organic alternative was the final push I needed to try it – and I think it’s great. Thank you!

Does organic vaping cause the same health problems as regular vaping? Does it cause the “popcorn lung” effect?
